Haissem Hassan Wins as Marmoush and Sam Morsy Suffer Defeats

Haissem Hassan helped Celtic win on his first league start, while Omar Marmoush and Sam Morsy suffered defeats with Tottenham and Blackburn.

Omar Marmoush completed 90 minutes on his Tottenham debut, but Newcastle United claimed a 2-0 Premier League victory in north London. The Egypt forward started in attack two days after joining Spurs from Manchester City on a season-long loan.

The Egyptian volleyed narrowly wide during Tottenham’s dominant first half. Lukas Hornicek also denied Mathys Tel, Andrew Robertson and Jan Paul van Hecke.

Malick Thiaw then caught Marmoush inside the penalty area shortly after half-time, but the referee rejected Tottenham’s appeals for a spot kick.

The 27-year-old carried the ball across the pitch in the 60th minute before sending a dipping effort narrowly wide. He finished without a goal or assist.

Anthony Elanga opened the scoring for Newcastle two minutes later. Yoane Wissa doubled the visitors’ advantage with an improvised close-range finish in the 72nd minute.

“We had chances to score, but we didn’t score,” Roberto De Zerbi said. “The result is important, but I am not angry.”

Tottenham’s agreement includes an obligation to make Marmoush’s transfer permanent next summer.

In Scotland, Haissem Hassan recorded the only victory among the three Egyptians as Celtic defeated Falkirk 2-1 at Celtic Park.

The winger started on the right and played 63 minutes on his Scottish Premiership debut.

While he failed to score or assist, Hassan’s performance was impressive, and the home supporters gave him a strong send-off when he was substituted.

Camilo Durán put Celtic ahead in the fourth minute after capitalising on Scott Bain’s mistake. He added his second goal from Kieran Tierney’s cross in the 29th minute. Colby Donovan’s own goal reduced Falkirk’s deficit with 18 minutes remaining, but Celtic protected their lead.

“We created a lot of good chances,” Martin O’Neill told Sky Sports. “Just to win after the disappointment of Tuesday night was really important.”

The victory gave Celtic three wins from their opening three league matches. It also followed their midweek Champions League elimination against LASK.

Haissem Hassan joined Celtic from Real Oviedo earlier this month on a four-year contract, as KingFut previously reported.

As for Sam Morsy, he entered Blackburn Rovers’ Championship match against Queens Park Rangers in the 57th minute. The midfielder replaced Adam Forshaw with the score level at 1-1.

Ryoya Morishita had given Blackburn the lead two minutes after half-time, but Paul Smyth equalised almost immediately.

Jimmy Dunne headed QPR’s winner from Tariq Lamptey’s cross in the 74th minute. The referee booked Morsy six minutes later as Blackburn lost 2-1 at Ewood Park.

“I felt pretty proud of the way we performed in the vast majority of the game,” Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray said. The defeat left Blackburn with four points from their opening three Championship matches.

Blackburn signed the 34-year-old Egyptian on a one-year contract earlier this month after his departure from Bristol City.
