Qatar’s young guns aim to shine at World Cup

Qatar’s young guns aim to shine at World Cup

Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s final pre-World Cup warm-up against El Salvador in Los Angeles offered another look at Julen Lopetegui’s evolving plans, with the head coach rotating heavily and using almost his entire squad in a goalless draw that carried more tactical value than result pressure. argolida.life

It was the final test before Qatar head into the FIFA World Cup 2026, where they open against Switzerland on June 13, followed by Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina in Group B.

Lopetegui’s approach throughout the build-up has remained consistent. He has kept a strong core of experienced players while gradually introducing younger options into the setup. The result is a 26-man squad with an average age close to 29, built on stability but with space for less experienced players to step in when required.

For Qatar, the objective in North America is to be competitive after three defeats at their home World Cup in 2022. That is where the younger players come in, not as main figures, but as squad options in specific roles.

Tahsin Mohammed: Teenage spark with Kerala roots

Tahsin Mohammed represents the clearest expression of Qatar’s long-term project. Still only 19, the Al Duhail winger has moved quickly from academy football to the international stage, carrying with him both potential and expectation.

Born in Doha to parents from Kerala’s Kannur district, Tahsin’s rise has drawn attention beyond Qatar, particularly in India where his World Cup selection has been widely followed. A graduate of Aspire Academy, he made history as the first player of Indian origin to feature in the Qatar Stars League.Qatar's Tahsin Mohammed in action during a friendly match against El Salvador on Saturday. On the pitch, his profile is simple but effective. Last season he made 14 appearances for Al Duhail, contributing a goal and an assist, but the numbers only tell part of the story. His value lies in movement and intent rather than output alone.

In this Qatar squad, his role is shaped by those around him. With Akram Afif operating as the creative hub and Almoez Ali leading the line, Tahsin’s task is to add width, stretch defences and bring late-game energy when matches open up. Even limited minutes could be important in tight group games where one moment can shift momentum.

Ayoub Aloui: Young defender trusted in rotation

Ayoub Aloui, 21, has been part of Qatar’s senior setup over the past year and has featured in pre-World Cup friendlies against Ireland and El Salvador. The Al Gharafa defender made his senior international debut during World Cup qualifiers last year. He has been used in central defensive roles in recent matches, reflecting growing trust from the coaching staff.

He was named Qatar Football Association’s Best Under-23 Player for the 2025-26 season after an impressive domestic campaign, where he also scored in the Qatar Stars League.

Aloui is not expected to be a regular starter but remains part of the defensive rotation.

Mohamed Al-Mannai: Midfield option with flexibility

Mohamed Al-Mannai, 22, adds depth to Qatar’s midfield group with his ability to play in multiple roles.

A product of the Al-Sadd system, he developed through the academy before a loan spell at Al Shamal, where he scored five goals in a productive season.

He is comfortable in both holding and advanced midfield positions, giving Lopetegui tactical flexibility in central areas.

Al-Mannai’s development has been steady, and he has been included in the World Cup squad as part of the midfield rotation.

Ahmed Al Janehi: Wide option in attack

Ahmed Al Janehi, 25, comes into the squad after a consistent domestic season with Al Gharafa.

A product of Aspire Academy, he made his professional debut in 2019 and has since established himself as a reliable attacking option in the Qatar Stars League.

He scored two goals last season and provides width and movement in attacking areas.

His role is expected to be rotational, offering depth in wide positions when required.

Youssef Abdurisag: Experienced winger still pushing forward

Youssef Abdurisag sits between generations in this squad, with experience at both youth and senior international levels.Youssef Abdurisag in action against the friendly against El Salvador.

Born in Somalia and developed in Qatar’s football system, the 26-year-old winger has represented Qatar at U20, U21 and U23 levels before breaking into the senior team.

He has played for Al Sadd, Al Arabi and now Al Wakrah, gaining experience across different tactical systems.

Known for his pace and direct style of play, he remains an attacking option, particularly in transition situations where space is available behind opposition defences.Qatar’s young guns aim to shine at World Cup

Denmark's Eriksen 'doing well' after collapsing during friendly

Copenhagen: Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen is "doing well" after being admitted to hospital due to collapsing during Denmark's friendly against Ukraine, five years after suffering a cardiac arrest during the European Championships.

The 34-year-old former Manchester United midfielder, who had a type of pacemaker inserted after he collapsed in 2021, fell to the ground in the 64th minute of the match in Odense on Sunday.

Medical staff rushed onto the pitch while players from both teams gathered around him to shield the scene from television or smartphone cameras.

The referee called off the match and Eriksen was subsequently taken to hospital, having been shielded by both sets of players as he walked off the pitch.

"I want to let everyone know that I am doing well and that I am home with my family," Eriksen said in a social media post.

He said that receiving a shock from his ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) had had a "major impact" on him.

"I want to reassure everyone that this was (a) different situation from what happened in 2021," he said, adding that the device had done exactly what is was designed to do.

Eriksen said his "recovery has already started".

"For now, my focus is on recovering, spending time with my family, going on vacation, and playing football with my children," the footballer said.

Denmark's team doctor Morten Boesen said earlier on Monday that Eriksen had been "briefly unconscious" but that "the pacemaker responded as it should".

"I spoke to Christian this morning, and he is doing well," he said in comments posted on Instagram.

Boesen said that he and his medical team were in touch with the Danish national side's players.

"We are taking good care of the players and staff and are in regular contact with them."

Eriksen has worn the pacemaker since he collapsed during the group stage game against Finland at Euro 2020, which was played in 2021.

That led to him spending more than six months away from football.

Denmark captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg praised the swift help his team-mate received.

"There was a throw-in and I walked calmly to the touchline. Then I turned around and I saw Christian collapse," he told Danish television station TV2 on Sunday.
"We know very well what that means and the reaction was extremely rapid and respectful."

Denmark coach Brian Riemer, who worked with Eriksen at Premier League side Brentford, said it had been "an extremely shocking experience for everyone, the staff, the players and the opponents".

He said: "He's someone who counts a lot for me. You're closer to certain players than others and he was one of the ones I got close to at Brentford."

Eriksen resumed his career at Brentford seven months after his collapse, having been forced to leave Inter Milan because of Italy's rules against playing with a pacemaker.

He went on to join Manchester United, where he won the FA Cup and League Cup, and now plays for Wolfsburg in Germany, where he has another year to run on his contract.

He also returned to international football, playing for Denmark at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and Euro 2024 in Germany.

Denmark have not qualified for the World Cup in North America, which starts on Thursday.

Former Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner said the latest incident had been "really awful" but was relieved that Eriksen quickly regained consciousness.

"The main thing is that he was able to walk off by himself because that makes you think he's doing OK given the circumstances," Bendtner told TV2 on Sunday.
"But these are terrible images that outweigh the rest of the evening.

"It's the second time it's happened and as a friend of Christian's, it's really awful."

Hotel Gym Equipment Qatar: What Every 5-Star Property Needs in Its Fitness Center

For a luxury hotel, the fitness center is no longer an afterthought tucked into a basement. Today’s discerning guests expect a gym that rivals a premium health club — and they notice the difference immediately. Choosing the right hotel gym equipment in Qatar is a strategic decision that affects guest reviews, repeat bookings, and your property’s five-star positioning.

Whether you are opening a new resort in Doha or upgrading an existing wellness facility, this guide breaks down exactly what equipment a world-class hotel fitness center needs, how to plan the space, and why professional installation and maintenance matter just as much as the machines themselves.

Why Hotel Gym Equipment Quality Defines the Guest Experience

Business travelers and luxury tourists increasingly choose hotels based on wellness amenities. A modern, well-equipped gym signals that a property cares about guest health and lifestyle. The opposite is also true: outdated, broken, or limited equipment leaves a lasting negative impression and shows up in online reviews.

For five-star properties, the stakes are higher. Guests paying premium rates expect commercial-grade machines, a thoughtfully designed layout, and equipment that is always working. This is why sourcing 5-star hotel fitness center equipment in Qatar from an experienced supplier — rather than buying piecemeal — protects both your reputation and your investment. Sports Village Qatar has equipped fitness centers for leading hospitality names, including the Hilton West Bay, the Four Seasons Hotel, and The Torch Doha.

The Essential Categories of Hotel Gym Equipment Qatar Properties Need

A complete hotel fitness center balances cardio, strength, and recovery so it serves every guest — from the casual walker to the serious lifter. Here is what every five-star gym should include.

1. Commercial Cardio Equipment

Cardio machines are the backbone of any hotel gym and typically the most-used equipment. They must withstand continuous daily use without breaking down. A well-rounded cardio zone includes:

  • Treadmills — the single most requested machine in any hotel gym. A reliable commercial treadmill for a hotel gym in Qatar should offer cushioned decks and intuitive consoles for guests of all fitness levels.
  • Cross trainers and ellipticals for low-impact, full-body cardio.
  • Exercise bikes, including upright and recumbent options, for accessible workouts.
  • Rowers for efficient, full-body conditioning.

You can view the full range of commercial cardio equipment suitable for high-traffic hotel environments. The key is durability: home-grade machines simply cannot survive a busy hotel gym.

2. Strength Training Equipment

A premium fitness center needs more than dumbbells. Modern guests expect a proper strength offering that covers beginners and experienced lifters alike. Essential strength training equipment for a hotel in Qatar includes:

  • Selectorised machines — safe, easy-to-use, and ideal for guests unfamiliar with free weights. Browse selectorised strength options.
  • A multi-station unit to maximize training variety in a compact footprint.
  • Benches, racks, and a free-weight area with dumbbells for versatile workouts.

Space-conscious properties often favor a multi-station setup, which delivers several exercises in one machine — perfect for smaller hotel gyms that still want full functionality.

3. Functional Training and Stretching Zones

Functional fitness has become a guest expectation, not a luxury. A small dedicated area with functional training equipment, cable machines, and stretching space adds enormous perceived value with a modest footprint. It also caters to the growing number of guests who follow HIIT and mobility-focused routines.

4. Wellness and Recovery Equipment

True luxury extends beyond exercise into recovery. Many leading hotels in Doha now add hotel wellness center equipment such as body composition analysers, vibration plates, and spa or aqua features. These differentiate a good hotel gym from a genuinely memorable one and appeal directly to the wellness-focused traveler.

5. Professional Gym Flooring

Often overlooked, quality flooring protects both your equipment and your guests. Proper rubber gym flooring reduces noise, absorbs impact, prevents floor damage, and instantly elevates the look of the space. For a five-star property, this finishing detail matters.

Planning Your Hotel Fitness Center Setup in Qatar

Buying machines is only part of the equation. A successful hotel fitness center setup in Qatar depends on smart space planning. Even the best equipment underperforms in a poorly designed room.

Key planning considerations include:

  1. Guest capacity — size the gym to your room count and expected peak usage.
  2. Equipment zoning — separate cardio, strength, and stretching areas for safe, comfortable flow.
  3. Mirrors, lighting, and ventilation — essential for a premium feel and guest comfort in Qatar’s climate.
  4. Accessibility — ensure machines suit guests of all ages and ability levels.

This is where professional fitness center design for hotels in Qatar pays off. Sports Village Qatar offers a free 3D gym design service that lets you visualize the entire facility before a single machine is installed — so you get the layout right the first time. Why Installation and Maintenance Matter as Much as the Equipment

A common and costly mistake is treating gym equipment as a one-time purchase. Commercial machines in a busy hotel need expert installation and ongoing servicing to perform safely for years.

Professional hotel gym installation and maintenance in Qatar ensures:

  • Machines are assembled and calibrated correctly from day one.
  • Equipment stays under warranty and in peak working condition.
  • Downtime is minimized — a broken treadmill in a five-star gym is a guest-facing failure.
  • Your long-term investment is protected.

Working with a single, accountable gym equipment supplier for hotels in Qatar means one team handles supply, installation, and after-sales support — far simpler than juggling multiple vendors.

Choosing the Right Gym Equipment Supplier for Your Hotel

Not every supplier understands the demands of hospitality. The right partner for commercial gym equipment for hotels in Doha should offer genuine, warrantied products from trusted global brands, proven experience with hotel projects, full installation, and reliable maintenance.

Sports Village Qatar has been Qatar’s trusted gym equipment supplier since 2006, with more than 18 years of experience and authorized distribution for leading brands like Precor, Hoist, Core Health & Fitness, and Concept 2. The company has delivered fitness centers for hotels across Doha — strong proof of its hospitality expertise. You can learn more about Sports Village Qatar and its approach to commercial projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

What gym equipment does a 5-star hotel need in Qatar?

A five-star hotel gym should include commercial treadmills, cross trainers, exercise bikes, and rowers for cardio; selectorised machines, a multi-station unit, and free weights for strength; a functional training and stretching zone; quality rubber flooring; and ideally wellness or recovery equipment. The exact mix depends on guest capacity and available space.

How much space is needed for a hotel fitness center?

It depends on your room count and expected usage, but the goal is to comfortably zone cardio, strength, and stretching areas without crowding. A professional 3D gym design service can size and lay out the space efficiently before you purchase any equipment.

Should hotels buy commercial or home gym equipment?

Hotels must use commercial-grade equipment. Home machines are not built to withstand the continuous, multi-user daily traffic of a hotel gym and will fail quickly, leading to downtime and a poor guest experience.

Does Sports Village Qatar handle installation and maintenance for hotels?

Yes. Sports Village Qatar provides complete delivery, professional installation, and ongoing after-sales maintenance for all equipment it supplies, along with full manufacturer warranties — ideal for keeping a hotel gym running reliably.

Can a supplier help design our hotel gym layout?

Yes. Sports Village Qatar offers a free 3D gym design service for commercial clients, allowing you to visualize and plan your entire fitness center before installation begins.

Building a Fitness Center Worthy of Five Stars

The right hotel gym equipment does more than fill a room — it strengthens your property’s reputation, satisfies demanding guests, and supports premium positioning. By combining durable commercial cardio and strength machines, thoughtful design, quality flooring, and dependable installation and maintenance, your hotel can offer a fitness experience that genuinely matches its five-star promise.
