Castlevania: Belmont's Curse was made to enlighten players who "love Metroidvanias" but have "never played a Castlevania game," Konami lead says

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse producer Tsutomu Taniguchi explains that he proposed the development of a new game in the series after reading comments from Metroidvania fans who'd never played a Castlevania game.

Castlevania may be the one half of the genre name, but according to Taniguchi, many self-professed Metroidvania fans admit they've never played any games from the franchise. In an interview with Famitsu, he speaks about how development of Castlevania: Belmont's Curse began from this revelation.

As translated by GamesRadar+, Taniguchi says, "I was a fan of Castlevania long before I started on this project. Since joining Konami, I kept seeing people on social media and in fandoms saying that they love Metroidvanias but they've never played a Castlevania game. They might have seen the anime, but they'd never played the games." wlop.pl

Taniguchi realized that while Castlevania has good brand recognition, it doesn't mean that everyone has had the chance to play the games. "I started to think about what I could do about this as both a Konami employee and a fan," Taniguchi says. "So we began by porting old games to collections to create a way for people to play previous works."

Castlevania has received three larger game collections: 2019's Castlevania Anniversary Collection, 2021's Castlevania Advance Collection, and most recently 2024's Castlevania Dominus Collection. Despite the wide range of series games distributed across these collections, the series' most popular entry, Symphony of the Night, hasn't been part of a collection since the PSP's Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles.

"We also wanted to build more ways for new players to experience Castlevania, like the [Dead Cells] DLC I mentioned previously," Taniguchi continues. "Of course, I also wanted to see something new, so I proposed Castlevania: Belmont's Curse."

Fans have waited 12 years for a new Castlevania game, but Belmont's Curse is an even greater gift for swine like me who have never played the series

The 2026 World Cup was full of spectacle, scandal and compromise | Jonathan Wilson

This was a good rather than great World Cup on the field. In the background, things were a lot less edifying

Perhaps it’s too early, with the shreds of gold tape still fluttering through the New Jersey sky, to make a proper assessment. That will only come when everything has sunk in properly, when memories have had the chance to settle and shape themselves, when the consequences of certain events have become clear. But let’s try anyway to make some sort of assessment of where the World Cup that ended with Leandro Paredes grappling with Gavi ranks historically.

The Balogun Affair could yet have major consequences. At the moment, it feels that the world has moved on, but that’s the nature of tournaments. They have a momentum of their own, a drive towards the finish that tends to sweep everything else aside. But there can be little doubt that the bending before political pressure, sweeping aside 64 years of precedent to ensure a particular player could take the stage, just as Gianni Infantino had done with Cristiano Ronaldo, just as he had done in gerrymandering the qualification criteria for the Club World Cup to ensure Lionel Messi played, represents a milestone.

Think gaming handhelds are too expensive? Ayaneo says 'hold my beer,' lists $5,000+ monster

Ayaneo said it was suspending pre-orders for its Next 2 gaming handheld earlier this year, after rising storage costs and the ongoing memory crisis made it "no longer sustainable." Well, it's now listed on Ayaneo's website—with an asking price for the top model of $5,299.

I'll wait for you to pick up your jaw. Back with us? Good. The top-end Ayaneo Next 2 comes with an AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 APU, which is a Strix Halo beastie that's damn expensive no matter the device you find it in.

Storage wise, you get a 2 TB SSD. Sheesh, I know NAND prices are silly right now, but surely a single NVMe drive can't be entirely to blame. As for the RAM? Well it's... oh. Oh I see. The top spec model comes with, brace yourselves, 128 GB of LPDDR5x-8533.

Yep, that would account for the super-silly price tag. I know the the Next 2 is positioning itself to be the handheld to end all handhelds, but 128 GB of RAM? For what, exactly?

It's a Windows-based machine, so I suppose you could get up to some AI-based tomfoolery with it. Other than that, though, I cannot see a world where a 128 GB gaming handheld makes any sense.

Of course, there are cheaper models available. The 64 GB version will run you *gulp* $3,699, whereas the entry level model (and I use the term very loosely) with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage is a mere $2,999, with shipping said to begin at the end of this month.

No mattery which way you look at it, each of these prices is simply too much to pay for most mere mortals. And those with the cash to splash will still likely wince a little at this pricing.

Remember when I said the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X was kinda good value now at $1,000? Yep, that's the world we're living in in 2026, folks. And unfortunately, it's probably only going to get worse from here.

id Software: Nach Entlassungen widersprechen Doom-Macher ihrem Director Hugo Martin
