CAN U23 : L’Égypte accueille le tournoi qualificatif aux JO

La Confédération africaine de football (CAF) a arrêté les pays hôtes des principales compétitions continentales de jeunes prévues en 2027. L’Égypte accueillera la Coupe d’Afrique des nations des moins de 23 ans, un rendez-vous particulièrement important puisqu’il servira de tournoi qualificatif pour les Jeux olympiques de Los Angeles, programmés à l’été 2028. De son côté, le Ghana a été désigné pour abriter la CAN U20 en 2027. Une compétition qui constitue traditionnellement une étape majeure dans la détection et l’émergence des futurs talents du football africain. Le Maroc quant à lui a choisi la CAN U17. Avec ces trois désignations, l’Égypte, le Ghana et le Maroc deviennent les principaux pôles du football africain de jeunes en 2027. macnevers-and-co.beer

Head coach Rassie Erasmus and skipper Siya Kolisi said the Springboks were pleased to grind out a hard-fought 17-10 win against Argentina despite a below-par performance.

On Saturday, the teams were locked at 10-10 at half-time before Cameron Hanekom’s try in the fourth quarter broke the deadlock in Buenos Aires. Los Pumas pushed hard for a response in the closing stages, but the Boks held firm to extend their winning run in 2026.

Erasmus admitted the Boks looked leg-weary and disjointed after several players returned from injury and limited game time, but praised their character and composure under pressure.

“Our focus was purely on beating Argentina today, and we had a tough day out there,” he said.

“We looked leg-weary early on, gave up a lot of territory, and made errors which we knew were likely with seven or eight players having played very little rugby in the last six or seven weeks. I always expected us to look disjointed, having left 15 players back in South Africa.

“Argentina play a different style of rugby, and the stadium is genuinely intimidating, but it’s a win although it wasn’t pretty and perfect. That said, we are happy with the result and with the way we ground it out.”

Erasmus was encouraged by the defence but said the attack needed work.

“Our discipline was also relatively good, but what we need to sort out is our attack.

“A number of players were short on game time returning from injury, but getting them through 80 minutes was always going to affect our fluency,” he said. “The positive is that we got them through the game.”

He also credited Argentina’s physicality and fighting spirit, adding: “I have to give credit to them.

“They are a very proud rugby nation, and I always say they’ve got that same fight in them that we have back home. They’re passionate, and they never stop. What pleased me today was that we won the physical battle.”

FIRST TAKE: Boks left rattled by feisty Pumas

Kolisi, who left the field with a hamstring injury in the first half, said the Boks knew they faced one of their toughest opponents.

“We have a huge amount of respect for them, and we could easily have lost this game. Home or away, they’re one of the toughest teams we play all year. I thought it was going to be a real battle, and we were fortunate to come through it.”

The Boks will now return to South Africa in two groups on Sunday and Monday, before reuniting with the 15 players who remained behind in preparation for the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series against the All Blacks.

GRENOBLE- La nouvelle saison sportive a officiellement démarré ce week-end en France. Pour ce coup d’envoi de la Ligue 2, Yadaly Diaby a été décisif avec son club Grenoble.

Malgré ses deux buts marqués, le Guinéen n’aura pas empêché cependant la défaite des siens sur la pelouse de Dunkerque (4-2). Déjà deux buts inscrits par Yadaly lors de ce premier match de la saison, en attendant la deuxième journée de Ligue BKT entre Grenoble et le FC Metz.

Fullback Aphelele Fassi says freedom to express himself within the Springbok structures, alongside law changes, has helped him dominate the aerial battle.

Speaking ahead of clocking almost 80 minutes in Saturday’s 17-10 win over Los Pumas in Argentina, Fassi explained how much license head coach Rassie Erasmus gives players to trust their instincts.

“Quite a lot, I would say. They always focus on structure and how to build our game, but also playing what’s in front of you,” the 28-year-old said. “Not every game is going to be the same where you become flashy.

“Sometimes you need a bit of structure. We get 100% freedom to express ourselves in any way that we want, as long as it’s within the structures and it puts the team forward.”

On the growing emphasis on kicking and aerial contests across Test and domestic rugby, the 18-cap Fassi credited recent rule changes for opening up the space.

“Every team has its own plan on how they want to execute the aerial game. The way we want to do it is being able to dominate in that space,” he added.

“The rule change is making it more open for teams to dominate that space as well, which I feel is a good challenge for the attacking and the defensive teams. Just happy with how we get a chance to compete in the air.”

Fassi, who missed a chunk of last season for the Sharks due to shoulder surgery, also touched on how the coaching staff have made the transition into the Bok system a smooth one.

“The coaches make it easy and give us the platform to be able to learn, adapt and perform,” he said.

“For me, I guess it’s being able to learn, execute what the coaches want and how I want to play my game and what I see in front of me while playing.”

He was full of praise for Sharks youngsters Zekhethelo Siyaya and Luan Giliomee, who both made their senior debuts with South Africa A against Zimbabwe on 20 June.

“The two have a massive future ahead of them. We saw in the SA A game that they played, and how Gili played in the Junior World Championship and how Siyaya played his first game,” Fassi noted.

“They’ve got the ability to learn fast and to be able to adapt and execute the way that they want to play at the top level.”

Fassi also credited the Boks’ late-game dominance to strength and conditioning coach Andy Edwards, adding: “Andy plays a massive role, but it’s just the mindset of the whole squad, from the coaches and players, playing for a bigger thing.”
