For his outstanding performance, the former Gor Mahia defender was awarded a cash prize of Ksh 75,000.
Wangaya scooped Players’ award
Omollo’s success comes a few days after Nairobi United player Kevin Wangaya scooped the Players’ award for the same month.
The Kenya U-20 international becomes the second youngest winner of the accolade, following in the footsteps of Kariobangi Sharks’ teenage star Humphrey Aroko, 17, who claimed the award in February.
The 20-year-old, who has featured across all Kenya’s youth national teams and harbours ambitions of representing Harambee Stars at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, delivered a standout month, registering three goals and three assists in five matches as Nairobi United went unbeaten.
He opened the scoring in three separate matches – against Mathare United, Posta Rangers, and Mara Sugar – each time giving his side immediate control and a psychological edge.
His two assists against Murang’a Seal saw the team rally from a 2-0 deficit to win 4-2 in one of the games of the season.
Finishing runners up was Police FC keeper Daniel Ogembo, who recorded four clean sheets, and Naibois teammate Michael Karamor, who netted five goals during the month.
Wangaya took home Kes. 50,000 and a customized trophy.
Ackers: Greater Bulls squad rotated, tested and ticking boxes
Bulls coach Johan Ackermann said his decision to rotate his squad extensively against Zebre Parma paid dividends, and they are that much closer to having every player ready for the URC play-offs.
Ackermann made 10 changes to a Bulls side that still went on to thrash Zebre 54-19 in an imperfect but strong showing at Loftus on Saturday.
The win lifted the Bulls from seventh to fourth on the United Rugby Championship table, with just one home match against Benetton next week before the quarter-finals at the end of the month.
‘They were good changes’
Marco van Staden started at hooker for the first time, after covering from the bench occasionally. Willie le Roux played at flyhalf for the first time in more than a year. Paul de Wet and Le Roux formed a brand new half-back pairing.
Jeandré Rudolph also played openside flanker for the first time.
Five players who normally play from the bench were given starting berths with much more game time than usual.
The result was a thumping of eight tries to three. Le Roux especially impressed by nailing seven conversions and scoring a try to complete a haul of 19 points.
“The game wasn’t always fluid but they were good changes,” Ackermann said. “They showed that guys needed the game time.
“Willie played 80 minutes for the first time in a while and Paul was pushed more out to the wing. There were a lot of good things from the combinations that haven’t been tested before, to get game time in.”
He said Canan Moodie returned from injury to put in a decent performance, scoring a try getting a bit sharper before the play-offs.
Bulls players prove themselves in both roles
The only negative was that Cheswill Jooste hurt his hamstring. A medical assessment would need to be done to see how serious it is.
“Apart from that, we got the victory and a lot of players who didn’t have a lot of rugby got good game time.”
The Bulls coach said the first 10 minutes went exactly according to plan with set-piece dominance. Although Zebre slowed the game down, the Bulls responded by finding the right balance between kicking and running.
They were not always clinical, and need to tidy up their decision-making and ball control in contact. But the fact that players who had been on the bench in the past played well from the start, and others now had experience coming off the bench, made them all the more prepared for knockout games.
Hansen takes brutal parting shot at Japan refs
Toyota Verblitz coach Steve Hansen signed off from Japanese club rugby with a withering assessment of the refereeing standards.
The World Cup-winning former All Blacks mentor confirmed his departure after the Verblitz lost their final match of the season to the Honda Heat.
Hansen, in his final press conference, did not hold back in his criticism of officials in Japan Rugby League One.
“The quality of the refereeing was poor and I felt sorry for the players,” Hansen said.
“In the first half, plays that should never have been allowed were permitted.
“In the second half, two tries were disallowed by the TMO and one of them was an unbelievable decision.
“I’m leaving the team so I’m going to say this now.
“I’m saying this because I care about Japanese rugby and the players,” Hansen added.
“Honestly, one of the biggest disappointments of my time in Japan is that the quality of refereeing doesn’t meet the standards of this tournament.”
GENIA: Japan stint sharpening Libbok for Boks
Hansen, who guided New Zealand to World Cup glory in 2015, joined Toyota as director of rugby in 2019 before taking on head coaching duties in 2024 alongside former All Blacks coach Ian Foster.
Despite boasting several high-profile current and former Test stars – including Springbok Pieter-Steph du Toit, Aaron Smith, Mark Tele’a and Beauden Barrett – Verblitz struggled to make an impact, finishing 10th and ninth in the past two seasons.
Foreign coaches and players in Japan Rugby League One have repeatedly questioned officiating standards in recent years.
Former New Zealand Test referee Paul Honiss currently serves as the Japan Rugby Football Union’s high-performance match official coach.
Foster will take over as Verblitz head coach from next season.

URC: Updated log standings after mixed SA results
The Stormers, Bull, and Lions all remain in the running for hosting United Rugby Championship quarter-finals, with the latest round of action in the URC certainly having a big impact on the latest log standings.
At the start of the weekend, the Stormers set the tone for an exciting round as they secured a last-gasp 38-38 draw against Ulster in Belfast on Friday night, but it was a result that saw them slip to second on the standings.
Meanwhile, the Bulls and Sharks followed with sensational bonus-point victories on Saturday, thumping Zebre Parma 54-19 in Pretoria, and Benetton 46-7 in Durban.
But it was a heartbreak for the Lions, who leaked three late tries in an epic battle against Champions Cup finalists, Leinster, in Dublin to suffer a disappointing 31-7 defeat, which brought their six-match winning streak to a halt.
Big impact on URC log
The weekend’s results saw the Stormers (59 points) drop from first place on the standings to second – one point behind the Glasgow Warriors and one more than Leinster – while the Bulls’ victory saw them leap up to fourth place (54 pts).
With Munster (51 pts) and Cardiff (50 pts) also on the losing side, the Lions only dropped on spot to fifth (53 pts), leaving all three teams in contention for home quarter-finals going into the final pool round next week. The Sharks held onto the 10th spot on the table with 41 points.
