Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has named a strong starting XI as Amakhosi look to continue their momentum in the league.

WHAT IS THE KAIZER CHIEFS STARTING XI?

Kaizer Chiefs XI: Petersen, Frosler, Miguel, Moloisane, Cross, Mthethwa, Maboe, Ndlovu, Vilakazi, Ighodaro, Mmodi.

The lineup sees Reeve Frosler return at right back, while Bradley Cross starts on the opposite side. Inacio Miguel and Thabo Moloisane will form the central defensive pairing.

Further forward, Etiosa Ighodaro leads the attack, with Mfundo Vilakazi and Pule Mmodi supporting the attack.

WHAT IS THE POLOKWANE CITY STARTING XI?

Polokwane City XI: Masuluke, Manthosi, Nkaki, Ramaja, Modise, Kambala, Maphangule, Matube, Sebone, Dlamini, Molokwane.

Polokwane City will hope their starting XI can frustrate Kaizer Chiefs and produce a strong performance on home soil.

The two sides head into the clash in contrasting form. Polokwane City are looking to end a difficult run, while Kaizer Chiefs want to maintain their strong start and keep the pressure on the teams above them.

The Amakhosi sit third on the Betway Premiership log with three wins, two draws and no defeats from their opening five matches. Kaizer Chiefs also come into the game full of confidence after their thrilling 3-2 victory over Siwelele FC.

Meanwhile, Polokwane City occupy 11th place and have managed just one win from their first five league matches. Rise and Shine have, however, shown some resilience, picking up three draws during that run.

The confirmed teams set up an important Betway Premiership encounter, with both sides looking for maximum points.

Into the Deep Waters: Ricardo Malajika’s Quest for Green and Gold in Japan

On September 27th, history and destiny will converge inside the Toyota Arena in Tokyo. Exactly forty years to the day after South African boxing legend Brian Mitchell captured the WBA World Championship on September 27, 1986, 28-year-old Ricardo “Magic Man” Malajika will step through the ropes looking to echo that exact legacy. Malajika, boasting a stellar professional record of 19 fights with 17 wins, and 12 knockouts, is hunting for the vacant WBC World Super Flyweight title against hometown fighter Tomoya Tsuboi.

Embracing Hostile Territory

Stepping into a hostile arena against a decorated local is a daunting task, but Malajika remains aggressively unfazed. “It’s his hometown,” Malajika acknowledged, “but when you fight there, you gotta make sure that you win every round”. Instead of feeling the pressure of the road, the Magic Man plans to capture the respect of the famously proud Japanese fans. “I’m going there to steal his fans,” Malajika confidently stated. “They’re gonna have a new guy to follow soon”.

His opponent presents a unique stylistic puzzle. While Tsuboi holds an impressive gold medal from the amateur World Championships, he has only three official professional fights on his record. Malajika, however, isn’t overthinking the tape. “I don’t care what he has,” Malajika stated. “He wants to dance with the beast, let him dance with the beast”. Malajika intends to leverage his 119 rounds of professional experience to drag Tsuboi into unfamiliar territory. “You’ll see him in round 8, round 10, ’cause that’s when the real true champions come out,” he noted, adding that he intends to test his opponent in “deep waters”.

The Blueprint for the 'Magic Man'

Behind Malajika’s supreme confidence is the calculated strategy of head trainer Manny Fernandez. Fernandez acknowledges Tsuboi’s amateur pedigree but sees clear, exploitable avenues for victory. “We got a good game plan and we understand how he fights,” Fernandez said. The blueprint leans heavily on Malajika’s devastating power, particularly his right hand and debilitating body attack. “People don’t understand how Ricardo punches in this weight division, and Tsuboi is going to feel it, especially the body shots,” Fernandez explained, noting they plan to slow Tsuboi down and ultimately secure a stoppage.

Preparation at the Brian Mitchell Boxing Academy has been rigorous and deeply collaborative. Malajika’s camp featured high-level sparring partners, including Jackson Chauke, Lerato Dlamini, and his own brother, Charlton Malajika, who recently healed from a cut and stepped in to imitate Tsuboi’s style. The gym is currently riding a massive wave of global momentum, proving Fernandez and his team are building a formidable brand. Stablemate Siya Kuse recently captured a WBC world title, setting a golden standard for the rest of the camp. “We got a gym full of very, very exciting fighters,” Fernandez noted. With Charlton fighting for an IBO title in November and several other fighters also in the world title mix, Fernandez proudly stated they have roughly four world title fights lined up over the next two months.

Fighting for Pride and Country

The South African contingent will spend ten days acclimatizing in Japan before fight night. Mitchell, his wife Sharleen, Fernandez, and the Malajika brothers will make Tokyo their temporary base during this critical tapering period. The focus is now on making weight, eating clean, and maintaining tunnel vision. “The first fight is always the scale,” Malajika admitted. To maintain peak condition away from their home gym, Fernandez confirmed they have packed their own equipment to train wherever necessary, ensuring Malajika remains razor-sharp.

Ultimately, this bout is more than a personal milestone; it is a profound statement for South African boxing. Malajika, who views Fernandez as a father figure, sees the WBC green belt as a way to give back to the sport, his team, and his country. Fernandez echoed this deep national pride, making a direct call for support to South African Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie. Pointing out that both McKenzie and Malajika hail from Kimberley, Fernandez emphasized the need for national backing on this international stage.

As the 27th approaches, Malajika’s lifelong vision of holding the same titles as Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson is within reach. With an elite corner, battle-tested ring IQ, and a legendary mentor marking a historic 40-year anniversary, the Magic Man is poised to write his own history. As Fernandez perfectly summarized the mission: “They’re gonna know that Ricardo belongs right up there with the best and he can unify world titles”.
