Korea Masters 2026: Ashmita Chaliha Wins Maiden BWF World Tour Title in Asan

Ashmita Chaliha produced a stunning turnaround in the Korea Masters final to claim the biggest title of her career. The rising Indian shuttler came from a game down to beat China’s Han Qian Xi 14-21, 21-14, 21-14 in 53 minutes and win her maiden BWF World Tour title on Sunday.

Han started strong and took the opening game putting Ashmita under early pressure. The Indian, however, did not let the match to slip away. She raised the pace in the second game and forced a decider. The final game remained close until the midway stage, when Ashmita trailed 9-11. She then took control and sealed a memorable win in Asan.

Via a press release from the Badminton Federation of India, Ashmita reflected on her win and said,l: “ I feel really great and unbelievable. But then I am trying to digest it. Now, I am hungry for more.”

Ashmita had also beaten top seed Hina Akechi of Japan 20-22, 21-15, 21-19 in the quarterfinals before getting the better of fellow Indian Rakshitha Ramraj 21-13, 16-21, 21-14 in the semifinals.

The title comes after a promising return from a three-month injury break. Since coming back in May, Ashmita had reached the quarterfinals at the China Masters and Malaysia Masters and also made it to the semifinals at the Macau Open.

The 26-year-old trains under Park Tae-sang at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati. She is now the fifth Indian woman to win a BWF World Tour singles title and joins Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Devika Sihag and Tanvi Sharma on the list.
