ભારત 15 મેડલ સાથે 8માં સ્થાન પર

દિલીપ મહાદુ ગાવિત અને મુરલી શ્રીશંકરે ઉપરાંત કોમન વેલ્થમાં ભારતીય બોક્સરોએ પણ શાનદાર પ્રદર્શન કર્યું. બોક્સરના સારા પ્રદર્શનના કારણે તેઓએ સેમિફાઇનલમાં પ્રવેશ કરી લીધો છે, જેનાથી ભારત માટે વધુ ૧૦ મેડલ પાકા થઈ ગયા છે. આ નવા સફળ દિવસ બાદ ભારતની કુલ મેડલ સંખ્યા ૧૫ થઈ ગઈ છે. જેમાં ૩ ગોલ્ડ, ૯ સિલ્વર અને ૩ બ્રોન્ઝ મેડલ નો સમાવેશ થાય છે. હાલમાં ભારત મેડલ ટેલીમાં ૮મા સ્થાને છે.

Glasgow [Scotland], July 30 (ANI): Indian javelin star Neeraj Chopra will begin his bid to reclaim the Commonwealth Games title when he takes part in the men’s javelin throw event at the Scotstoun Stadium on Thursday.

Chopra won the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast but missed the Birmingham 2022 edition due to an injury. The Olympic medallist now returns to the Games in Glasgow with an eye on securing his second Commonwealth Games title.

Earlier, the former world champion competed at the Doha Diamond League, marking his first competition of the 2026 season after recovering from a back injury.

In Doha, the former Olympic gold medallist dusted off the rust and soon found his groove on the third attempt, registering a throw of 85.69 metres to jump to third in the standings at the end of round three.

The former World Number 1 followed it up with a throw of 83.45 metres in the fourth round and needed a throw in excess of 86 metres in the fifth round to remain in the top three and qualify for the final shootout.

Unfortunately, as things panned out, Neeraj recorded another foul throw and dropped down to fourth to bring an end to his participation.

The men’s javelin throw competition at the Commonwealth Games 2026 will be held in two stages, with the qualification round scheduled for July 30, followed by the medal-deciding final in the early hours of August 1 (IST).

Meanwhile, India had a strong Day 7 at the Commonwealth Games 2026, winning three medals, one gold and two silver, and securing at least six more medals in boxing.

Dilip Mahadu Gavit won gold in the men’s T47 100m with a Games record time of 10.71 seconds, while Mohammed Basil Morssinganakth took silver to complete India’s one-two finish. Murali Sreeshankar also won silver in men’s long jump, becoming the first Indian male long jumper to win two Commonwealth Games medals.

Six Indian boxers, Sakshi Choudhary, Jaismine Lamboria, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal, reached the semifinals, guaranteeing at least six more medals.

Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane has announced his retirement from international cricket. He shared this news through a video message posted on his Instagram account. Rahane represented India in all three formats during his extensive international career. He played 85 Test matches, 90 ODIs, and 20 T20Is for the country. Rahane was also part of India's historic Test series win in Australia in 2020-21.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the return of Murali Sreeshankar to the international stage after a career-threatening knee injury forced him to miss the Paris Olympics. The 27-year-old long jumper clinched his second consecutive Commonwealth Games silver medal with a best effort of 8.09m. While the mark was well below his personal best of 8.41m, the medal carried far greater significance than the distance itself.

“You know more than anyone what I went through in the last two years,” Sreeshankar said after the event. “This medal feels special, and it belongs to everyone who helped me during this tough phase.”

The focus, however, quickly shifted to what lies ahead. “I’ll cherish this for one or two days, but then soon after I’ll get back to work,” he added, with his sights firmly set on the upcoming Asian Games.

India also celebrated its third gold medal of the Commonwealth Games and a second in para athletics after Sharmila’s triumph the previous day. Dilip Gavit led a memorable Indian one-two finish in the men’s 100m T47, with Mohammed Basil taking silver.

“It was the perfect gift to my coach on the occasion of Guru Purnima,” said Gavit. “But the conditions were difficult. The body was cooling down quickly.”

For Basil, the medal marked a dream start to his international career. “This was my first international tournament and I just wanted to run my best and win something. I’m happy that I could contribute to India’s medal tally,” he said.

National record holder Parul Chaudhary finished fifth in the women’s 3000m steeplechase. Battling the challenging conditions, she admitted that things did not go according to plan.

“The conditions were not ideal for the steeplechase, but I’m not complaining,” she said. “The preparations were good, but on the day I couldn’t execute it.”

Parul will next compete in the women’s 5000m, where she will hope to bounce back and challenge for a podium finish.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is going from strength to strength, and the BCCI has recognized a window to test the teenager in red-ball cricket after his white-ball exploits.

Following a thunderous IPL 2026 season, where he bagged the Orange Cap and MVP award, Sooryavanshi made his T20I debut in England, replacing Sanju Samson as an opener.

Most recently, the southpaw made his first major mark in international cricket with two thumping knocks in Zimbabwe, eventually bagging the Man of the Series award.

Sooryavanshi is part of India’s squad for the Asian Games, which will be played from September 24 in Japan. Before that, Sooryavanshi will be seen in action in the Duleep Trophy.

Has Sooryavanshi played in the Ranji Trophy?

Sooryavanshi has played eight first-class matches for Bihar but with ordinary returns: 207 runs in 12 innings at an average of only 17 with one fifty. However, his last FC appearance was in November 2025, when he was only 14 years of age and hadn’t had a full IPL season.

Now, with so much success and confidence gained in the last few months, Sooryavanshi would be ready to display his talent and skill set in red-ball cricket, with many pundits and fans already awaiting his India Test debut in the coming years.

Duleep Trophy: Ishan Kishan captain and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vice-captain for East Zone, Mohammed Shami to make appearance

The BCCI has named Sooryavanshi as the vice-captain and Ishan Kishan as the captain for the East Zone team for the Duleep Trophy 2026, which begins on August 23. The East Zone team includes fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar.

Sooryavanshi will have veteran domestic batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran as his opening partner; the latter is looking to earn back his position as India’s backup opener, having also been dropped from the India A side. Kumar Kushagra, Virat Singh, and Anukul Roy, all three of whom are Kishan’s Jharkhand teammates, are part of the East Zone side.

Riyan Parag and Akash Deep were reportedly not considered for selection, as they are still in rehab for shoulder surgery and back surgery, respectively.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami would be desperate to stake a strong claim for a recall to the Indian team in Test and ODI formats. Shami’s last match for India was the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, since when he’s been omitted by the selectors.
