Cherie DeVaux etched her name in history Saturday as Golden Tempo surged from the back of the pack to win the Kentucky Derby, becoming the first female trainer to achieve the feat in the race's 152-year history.

Golden Tempo, starting as a 23-1 longshot, surged past the leaders in the final seconds to secure a victory at Churchill Downs. Jockey Jose Ortiz earned his first Derby win, but the spotlight belonged to DeVaux.
