Ehlers Hat Trick Lifts Hurricanes Past Canucks

Nikolaj Ehlers completed a hat trick with an empty-net goal to lift the Carolina Hurricanes to a 6-4 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. The defeat extended Vancouver's losing streak to seven games.

The Hurricanes (39-16-6) built an early lead before the Canucks (18-36-7) showed signs of life with a 2-1 advantage in the first period. Ehlers sealed the win with his empty-net strike with 14 seconds remaining. Sean Walker, Andrei Svechnikov, and Sebastian Aho each contributed a goal and an assist for Carolina, while Seth Jarvis added two helpers.

For Vancouver, Filip Hronek registered a goal and two assists, with Marco Rossi, Brock Boeser, and Nils Hoglander also scoring. Elias Pettersson had two helpers. The Canucks went 2-for-4 on the power play, snapping an eight-game drought. Vancouver played without Evander Kane, who was recovering from the flu, and had earlier traded defenseman Tyler Myers to Dallas for draft picks.
